Meeting the Faces of EMBRACE: Why Our Characters Matter

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but in the EMBRACE project, our project characters are worth much more; they are the heartbeat of our mission. During our recent EMBRACE conference, we took a moment to step back from the data and the logistics to celebrate these “silent partners” who have brought so much meaning and joy to our journey.

Since their debut, these characters have acted as a vital bridge between our complex project goals and the communities we serve. They transform abstract concepts of emotional literacy and mental health into something tangible, relatable, and, most importantly, human.

Where the Magic Happens: From Classrooms to Conferences

It’s one thing to design a character – it’s another to see them spark real-world positivity. Our characters have already become familiar faces across several key pillars of our project:

  • In Schools: They have been the stars of our specialised teaching materials, helping children navigate complex emotions with ease.
  • In the EMBRACE PAC: They are central to our Public Awareness Campaign resources, making our message accessible to parents and the wider community.
  • On the Big Screen: They took centre stage at our latest milestone conference, where we presented their development and the deep connection they’ve fostered with our audience.

Celebrating 20 Years of EACEA

The conference also served as the perfect backdrop to highlight our 20th-anniversary video for EACEA. Representation and accessibility are at the core of EMBRACE, which is why we are proud to share this video in two versions to ensure our message resonates across borders:

A Human-Centred Journey

The overwhelming positivity these characters have attracted is a powerful reminder: at the centre of every project are the people (and the personalities) we serve. By using human-centred design, we are building a community.

To keep our EMBRACE characters alive beyond the project, we also created this dedicated EMBRACE Character page.

A huge thank you to everyone who has connected with our characters so far. They aren’t just drawings; they are the faces of a mission to build a more emotionally literate and inclusive future.
