Building More Inclusive Pathways into XR
Advanced digital skills are becoming increasingly important across Europe, yet access to education and training opportunities is not always equal. Differences in geography, socio-economic background, and representation within technical fields can create barriers that prevent talented individuals from pursuing careers in emerging technologies.
This is one of the challenges addressed by ARISE, a project focused on expanding opportunities in Extended Reality (XR), Human–Computer Interaction, and immersive technologies.
The project’s impact extends beyond educational content alone. Through its activities, ARISE aims to support greater participation in advanced digital fields while helping learners develop the skills needed in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
One of the key areas highlighted by the project is gender diversity. Women remain underrepresented in many advanced digital and technology-related sectors, including XR. By encouraging greater participation in these fields, the project contributes to creating learning environments that reflect a wider range of perspectives, experiences, and talents.
A second area of focus is socio-economic inclusion. Access to high-quality education should not depend on personal circumstances. By promoting opportunities for learners across the European Union and associated countries, the project seeks to reduce barriers that may limit participation in advanced digital education. The goal is to ensure that talent, motivation, and potential can play a greater role in determining who accesses these opportunities.
The project also contributes to the development of a digitally skilled workforce. As immersive technologies continue to evolve, there is growing demand for professionals with expertise in XR, Human–Computer Interaction, design, and related digital disciplines. Supporting learners in developing these competencies helps prepare the next generation of specialists who will contribute to Europe’s future digital ecosystem.
These three areas – gender diversity, socio-economic inclusion, and workforce development – are closely connected. Expanding participation in advanced digital education not only creates opportunities for individuals but also helps strengthen the broader talent pool available to Europe’s technology sectors.
For partners such as Evolutionary Archetypes Consulting SL and 28DIGITAL, this reflects an important principle behind ARISE: creating educational pathways that support both excellence and accessibility.
By working to expand access to XR education and advanced digital skills, the project contributes to a future where more people can participate in, shape, and benefit from technological innovation.
