When we think about robots in the workplace, we might picture large machines performing repetitive tasks independently, often operating in dedicated areas away from people. But robotics has evolved considerably, and not every robot is designed to work in the same way.

This week, the SPECTRO Summer Quiz turns its attention to collaborative robots, commonly known as cobots.

What Are Collaborative Robots?

Cobots are part of a broader shift in robotics towards systems designed with human–robot collaboration in mind. Rather than looking at robotics only through the lens of automation, collaborative robotics raises important questions about how humans and machines can share tasks and environments effectively.

This makes the topic relevant well beyond robotics laboratories. As robotic technologies continue to develop, professionals need knowledge spanning areas such as robotics, intelligent systems, sensing, control, artificial intelligence, and the interaction between people and machines.

Understanding these technologies is particularly important as robotics becomes increasingly integrated into industrial and other professional environments.

Why Robotics Skills Matter

This is one of the areas addressed by SPECTRO, which focuses on strengthening advanced digital skills in cybersecurity and robotics.

The project combines specialised education with opportunities for practical learning, helping learners develop expertise relevant to a rapidly changing technological landscape. Its focus also reflects the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of robotics, where knowledge of software, AI, cybersecurity, and intelligent systems can intersect.

Making Robotics Easier to Explore

The SPECTRO Summer Quiz Series on LinkedIn gives a general audience an accessible way to explore some of these concepts.

No specialist robotics knowledge is required. Each question is designed to spark curiosity about the technologies behind the systems we increasingly encounter in everyday and professional life.

At the end of the summer, the answers to the quiz questions will be collected in a special edition of SPECTRO Cyber & Robotics Insights. Readers will be able to discover the correct answers, understand why they are correct, and explore further learning resources related to cybersecurity, robotics, and digital skills.

Through SPECTRO, Evolutionary Archetypes Consulting SL (EAC), 28DIGITAL, and the wider consortium contribute to making these fields more accessible and encouraging learners to explore the skills shaping Europe’s digital future.
