Europe Needs a New Generation of Cloud & HPC Specialists
As cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing continue to develop, the skills expected from future professionals are changing as well. Employers are increasingly looking for graduates who can work across multiple technologies, combining technical knowledge with practical experience to solve complex, real-world challenges.
To better understand these changing expectations, project partner TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) surveyed organisations as part of ACHIEVE, gathering feedback from sectors including biotechnology, finance, aerospace, and digital health.
Skills That Go Beyond a Single Discipline
Employers are seeking professionals who can connect cloud computing, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data management within the same working environment. Survey participants also highlighted the importance of graduates who are comfortable working with real datasets, managing complex workflows, and understanding the practical aspects of deploying AI solutions in large-scale computing environments.
These findings reflect how modern digital infrastructures are built. Cloud platforms, AI applications, networking systems, and HPC environments increasingly operate together, requiring professionals who understand how these technologies interact rather than viewing them as separate disciplines.
Preparing Students for These Challenges
This multidisciplinary approach is central to ACHIEVE.
The Double Degree Master’s programme in “Cloud and Networking Infrastructure and HPC”, part of the EIT Digital Master School, is designed to prepare students for the evolving needs of the industry. Throughout the programme, students develop knowledge in cloud computing, networking infrastructure, HPC, and innovation while studying in two different European countries and gaining an international perspective on advanced digital technologies.
By combining technical education with practical learning, the programme helps students develop the broad skill set that employers increasingly expect across Europe’s digital economy.
The collaboration includes Evolutionary Archetypes Consulting SL, focusing on employability and applied learning, alongside 28DIGITAL, which supports the programme’s integration within the European digital skills ecosystem.
Looking Ahead
The survey demonstrates that the demand for Cloud and HPC specialists is continuing to grow, but so is the demand for professionals who can connect multiple technologies and apply them in practice.
By aligning education with these changing industry expectations, ACHIEVE is helping prepare the next generation of specialists who will contribute to Europe’s digital future.
